The Warrior bracelet was created for the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD). IAPMD is a lifeline of support, information, and resources for women and AFAB individuals with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and Premenstrual Exacerbation (PME). PMDD is a severe negative reaction in the brain to the natural rise and fall of estrogen and progesterone and PME refers to the worsening of the symptoms of another disorder, such as major depressive disorder or generalized anxiety disorder, during the menstrual cycle. Those with PMDD are at increased risk for suicide and suicidal behavior. It currently takes on average 12 years to get an accurate premenstrual disorder diagnosis, which is why IAPMD is such a vital asset to the community by offering free self-screenings and tools to navigate such an underrepresented issue.
May this bracelet be a reminder to each PMD warrior to keep fighting. While the PMD colors are traditionally teal and black, the pearl beads have different symbolism. Pearls take years to form and come from an oyster changing something painful into a beautiful outcome. IAPMD's mission is to create a world where people with PMDs can not only survive, but thrive!
